Setting a Goal

Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan.
Tom Landry
It is good to have goals, short-term goals and long-term goals. It seems to me that sometimes we set our goals down on paper, and somewhere along the way, we forget about them. When we are setting our plan of action for our goals, write them on a piece of paper, and review them at least once per week to keep them fresh in our mind. I am convinced that goal setting and then achieving it, are critical elements to our success in life. As Mr. Landry noted, “staying with the plan”, is everything to achieving our goals in life. I really never set any goals in my life, and just thought that everything would work out. It does not work that way! You must have a set of goals that are realistic and yet challenging. Work hard towards those goals, reflect each week on how you are doing, and then keep working until you reach each and every goal. If you have no goals, you will really have no life. Goal setting, sets the stage for your dreams and aspirations in life!

A man’s character may be learned from the adjectives which he habitually uses in conversation.
Mark Twain
It is interesting to note the language and slang that is used by a lot of our youth today. I was taught to respect my elders and to watch the words that I use when I am talking to someone in conversation. Even in some music today, the vulgar lyrics, and profanity laced songs, are very disturbing! You can learn a lot about a person, just by the way they speak their words. The Bible says that “what is in your heart, comes out your mouth.” Men of great character, are usually very careful with the way they choose their words when speaking. A lot of children today should remember that speaking to people in the right tone and voice, is very important in learning how to respect people and how to form integrity. Humble yourself and learn to speak with kind and edifying words. It will go along way in building your character!

God Loves You!

Ever had days you feel all alone? Ever felt like nobody cares about your circumstances, your hurts, even your dreams?

Let me encourage you. I may not know all the specific challenges you’re facing, but these two things will make all the difference:

First, I want you to know that God is with you. Second, I want you to know that God is for you!

No matter how alone you feel, no matter how discouraged you might be…God will always be with you and for you. He’s promised it, and God doesn’t break His promises.

I pray that you will keep this incredible promise front and center in your life every day!

If you do, fear and worry won’t be able to steal your joy. The circumstances of life will not dictate your future. Sickness and financial lack will not have its way in your life. When God is with you and for you, no person, no situation, no circumstance can keep you from the blessings of God.

The same God who created the heavens and the earth, who spoke the universe into existence, who knows everything that will ever happen in your life…is WITH YOU and FOR YOU.

When God is for you, nothing can win against you. Not the pain of your past, not the mistakes you’ve made, not a bad economy or ANYTHING else on earth.

It doesn’t matter what you’re not — it only matters who God is.

If you’ve offered your life to Christ, if you love God with all your heart, He’s promised to always be with you and for you.

“…He sends rain on the just and the unjust alike”
(Matthew 5:45, NLT)

We all have opportunities to get upset and live stressed out. The storms of life come to every person. No matter how good a person you are, you’re going to have some “rain” in your life. When these storms come, a lot people use their faith to try to control their circumstances. But I’ve found it’s better to use my faith to control myself in the midst of my circumstances. I know that if I can just remain stable in the storms of life and stay in peace, that’s what allows God to act on my behalf.God never said that we wouldn’t have difficulties, but He did promise we could have peace in the midst of the storms.

 When you face adversities, one of the most powerful things you can do is simply stay calm. When you are at peace, you are displaying your faith in God. By your actions you’re saying, “God, I know You’re still on the throne. I know You’re bigger than this problem.” So keep peace in the midst of your storms today. Trust that He is working behind the scenes. Keep your heart open to Him because soon He will deliver you!

Somebody said that it couldn’t be done,
But, he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.

So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, as he did it.

Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one we know has done it”;
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.

With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you, one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.

But just buckle right in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That cannot be done, and you’ll do it

Figure it out for yourself, my lad,
You’ve all that the greatest of men have had,
Two arms, two hands, two legs, two eyes
And a brain to use if you would be wise.
With this equipment they all began,
So start for the top and say, “I can.”

Look them over, the wise and great
They take their food from a common plate,
And similar knives and forks they use,
With similar laces they tie their shoes.
The world considers them brave and smart,
But you’ve all they had when they made their start.

You can triumph and come to skill,
You can be great if you only will.
You’re well equipped for what fight you choose,
You have legs and arms and a brain to use,
And the man who has risen great deeds to do
Began his life with no more than you.

You are the handicap you must face,
You are the one who must choose your place,
You must say where you want to go,
How much you will study the truth to know.
God has equipped you for life, but He
Lets you decide what you want to be.

Courage must come from the soul within,
The man must furnish the will to win.
So figure it out for yourself, my lad.
You were born with all that the great have had,
With your equipment they all began,
Get hold of yourself and say: “I can.”

“Those who plan what is good find love and faithfulness”
(Proverbs 14:22, NIV)

Do you wake up every morning expecting favor and blessing on everything you do? Do you plan for what is good? When we plan for what is good, the scripture tells us that we find love. We know that God is love which means that when we plan for what is good, we will find God in the midst of our plans.

Today, don’t let the negative voices of the world steal your focus or get you off course. Don’t start planning for a bad day; choose to plan for good. The scripture doesn’t say, “Plan for good as long as the economy is booming.” It doesn’t say, “Plan for good as long as the housing market is strong.” It doesn’t say, “Plan for good as long as you aren’t facing any adversity.” No, we can plan for good because we serve a God who is good, and He is ready, willing and able to bring us through any adversity we face! Boldly plan for good today and watch God show up in the midst of your plans!
